about

Éclats - a term which as well evokes fragments and shards than flashes and lights - is an electronic symphony that pays homage to the synthesizer pioneers of the 1970s. The album, instrumental, is structured like a classical symphony in five movements: two large-scale rhythmic and danceable movements surround a soft and melancholic second movement, an interlude suspended like a breath, and a darker fourth movement in the style of Scherzo.

Recorded on a modular synthesizer, the sound direction fully assumes its references to Jean-Michel Jarre, Wendy Carlos, Isao Tomita or Kraftwerk, blended with some danceable beats à la Kelly Lee Owens. But the composition also borrows from the minimalist processes of Steve Reich and Philip Glass: the entire music is structured using additive and subtractive processes, generated using a python algorithmic composition library developed for the project (arvo), and which is now available in open source.
